We have begun to learn about the planets in our solar system.  This is a collaborative project with 2 other schools.  We are working with Miss Murphy's class at Rexton Elementary and Miss MacDonald's class at Tabusintac School.  Each class is learning about three of the planets in the solar system.  We will then share our research with the other classes.  Our class is learning about Mars, Pluto and Earth.  The K5 students completed the research and report on Mars.  We learned a lot of interesting facts about Mars.  We are starting to learn about Pluto this week.

During Writers Workshop, the students learn how to write different genres of writing.  This Fall we learned how to write a Procedural  piece of writing.  We began by reading a book called Hair Heads.  The students learned step by step how to grow and care for a Hair Head.  They then grew, cared for and decorated their own Hair Heads in the classroom.  The students then took what they learned about Hair Heads and the Procedural genre and wrote wonderful Procedural writing pieces.  Here is a sample of the writing that each student wrote about their Hair Heads in a PowerPoint Presentation.
