Today, October 4th is a day where we honour the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG).
October 4th vigils across Canada are held to to honour the memory of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls. Gatherings serve to raise awareness and to provide support to families who have lost a loved one.
Orange Shirt Day, in recognition of the harm the residential school system did to children's sense of self-esteem and wellbeing, and as an affirmation of our commitment to ensure that everyone around us matters.
Wearing an orange shirt is a way to honour the survivors and remember those that did not survive. Orange Shirt Day is also an opportunity for First Nations, local governments, schools and communities to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come.
