Grade 6 students are working on a math unit in geometry. Students are learning to:- Estimate, measure, and draw angles using a protractor.- Make and apply generalizations about the sum of angles in triangles and quadrilaterals.- Make and aplly generalizations about diagnoal properties of quadrilaterals.- Sort quadrilaterals according to properties.- Make and interpret orthographic drawings.- Create cross-sections from solids.- Make generalizations about the planes of symmetry of solids. Geometry and spatial awareness are important elements in understanding mathematics. Geometry provides students with a strong link between mathematics and the world around them. If you have any questions about your child's progress in this unit please don't hesitate to contact me. Miss Watling

Grade 3 students are learning to apply mental math strategies and number properties, such as: - using doublesexample: 5 + 7You know that 5 + 5 = 10.5 + 7 is 2 more.So, 5 + 7 = 12 - making 10example: 8 + 5I know 10 + 5 = 15.8 + 5 is 2 less.So, 8 + 5 = 13 - commutative propertyexample: 2 + 9 = 9 + 2order doesn't matter - thinking addition for subtraction to recall basic addition facts to 18 and related subtraction facts.example: 5 - 22 + ? = 5? = 32 + 3 = 55 - 2 = 3 They should be practicing these strategies in their homework. If you have any questions/concerms please don't hesitate to contact me. Miss Watling
